Laid-Back Living Room Design with Mid-Century Accents

A little boho meets mid-century in this laid-back living room design! Blues, beiges and browns come together to create a soothing and natural space, ready for relaxation. Layered rugs add so much depth to a space - I love playing around with color by mixing a brighter, more patterned rug on top of a natural jute texture. Check our our Save or Splurge post on the blog to explore different option we’ve sourced for this design. The ivory mid-century sofa from Crate & Barrel keeps the space light and bright, while the leather and wood chair from West Elm ties in the wood tones from throughout the space. I’m so into this mod wood and glass coffee table! I love when you can find a great bit of vintage looking furniture without having to search high and low for the perfect piece.

There’s nothing quite like sitting around a fire on a cold night! Outdoor throw pillows are perfect for cozying up an outdoor bench in the later parts of the year. These black and white tribal pillows pair perfectly with this traditional black metal garden bench. On sale now at CB2, these funky garden chairs round out the seating area. A cast-iron fire pit is a durable, low maintenance way to add ambiance to an outdoor space. It’s great to not have to mess with gas, and to be able to have that campfire smell setting the tone for a great fall evening.

If you’ve been keeping up with me on my instagram or LTK page, you’ve probably seen some snapshots from me working on my own living room refresh — naturally, I’ve had living rooms on the brain! I’ve been loving this southwestern rug from Wayfair of all places. It gives a perfect neutral effect with little pops of color, and is a total steal for the size. Mixing the materials of a sofa and other seating in the room always makes a design more dynamic. I love the combo of a velvet sofa paired with leather chairs! The black metal of the casual butterfly chair ties into both the legs of the minimal coffee table and the industrial electric fireplace. A quality electric fireplace can add so much ambiance to a room without the costs and struggle of a renovation!

Black accents mix with light furniture in this relaxed dining room design. The stylish mixed metals in the Adeline chandelier from Lulu and Georgia make for a smart combination and inspire other dark accents scattered throughout the space. I’m loving this rattan and upholstered dining chair from Crate & Barrel — it’s such a simple and versatile piece that could work with so many different styles! Natural textures are a staple for designing with that California-casual feel in mind. A woven jute rug sets the stage for a bleached-wood dining table, backed by a pair of rounded bookcases. Incorporating shelving in a dining room can be a great way to add some extra storage space and display more decorative glasses and serving-ware.
