Theres no saying you must have a cohesive design plan throughout your home. There are many beautiful homes that sport a different look in each room. That said, if your goal is to keep your homes design cohesive, here are three easy ways to ensure a nice visual flow as you move from room to room.
Stay consistent with flooring
Stay consistent with your flooring choices as much as possible. If you need a different type of flooring in a bedroom or bathroom, try to make those your only transitions. Avoid having two different types of flooring in an open concept floor plan. Your look will always feel more cohesive if the floors arent broken up into lots of different materials on the floor. If you have an open concept, install one type of flooring all around and only switch in separate bedrooms and bathrooms if necessary.
Keep a consistent color palette from room to room
If youve decided on a particular color palette in one room, keep it consistent throughout all the spaces, especially if you have an open floor plan. One way to do this is to stick with the same colors but change up how much you use of each one. For example, if you have a neutral color palette of white, gray, and black, one room might be mostly light with black accents, and another might be mostly dark with white accents. So, you are staying with the same colors but changing up how you use them in each space.
Dont be afraid to repeat items you love
Dont be afraid to repeat items you love. Its okay to repeat an item you love somewhere else in the house. I think this rule especially applies to items that come in different color options. For example, if youve found a lamp you love in your living room, you might consider using it in a different color way for your bedroom night stands. Also, if you love your family room area rug, theres no saying you cant use it in your den too. Its kind of like finding that perfect sweater and then buying it in both color ways because you just love the way that particular style fits so much. Its helpful in keeping your home cohesive AND your decision load manageable.
