I recently had the sweetest project designing a nursery for a client who is expecting her first baby this January. She and her husband decided to keep the gender a surprise, so their goal was to create a space that felt warm, neutral, and timeless — something that would feel just as welcoming for a baby boy or girl.
They reached out to me through my Virtual Interior Design Service, and together we worked on pulling together a room that blends soft neutrals, natural textures, and just the right amount of whimsy. The end result is a calm and cozy space that will grow beautifully with their little one.
The Design Vision
From the beginning, my client wanted the nursery to feel serene and uncluttered, yet still have personality. We started with a soft neutral palette and layered in texture through woven materials, warm wood tones, and gentle pattern. The Chris Loves Julia x Loloi Scottie Ivory / Rust Area Rug became our jumping-off point — I love how its scalloped border and subtle contrast bring a touch of warmth without feeling busy.
We paired it with a white scalloped dresser for a cohesive look, and added a comfy swivel glider, a rattan side table, and a woven pendant light to add natural warmth. The adorable sheep wall decals tie it all together, adding a playful touch while keeping the look refined and gentle.

The Finishing Touches
Every nursery needs a few personal touches, so we incorporated a sweet rocking lamb, some framed animal prints, and soft textiles to complete the cozy atmosphere. The end result is a space that feels peaceful, welcoming, and ready for baby — no matter who decides to arrive in January!
