Style Inspiration: California Mountain Modern with Vintage Vibes

I want to share some home style inspiration that I’m calling “California Mountain Modern with Vintage Vibes”…but before I do, Let me bring you up to date.

If you read my last blog post you know we just purchased a new home and are currently in escrow! It’s so exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Our offer on the new house involves several contingencies and we are still crossing our fingers that everything goes as planned.

The design inside our soon to be new home is VERY different from our current home. For one, it has dark grey flagstone shaped slate floors. Kind of like this photo below….

However, our new floors have a bit more color variation, similar to this example…

I have to be honest. I probably never would have picked this style floor myself. I’m much more of a traditional hardwood floor lover. That said, it’s what’s in there, and we probably won’t have the money to redo it anytime soon after moving in. I also have to admit that even though I would not have chosen this floor myself, the style is kind of growing on me. I’ve decided to embrace the slate floors and use them as a jumping off point for the rest of my interior decor.
Floors are such a huge design element in any home and they can’t be ignored. Our new slate floors have so much color, texture and pattern. They also have a little bit of a rustic mountain feel. In my opinion they call for more minimalist decor and a more monochromatic color scheme. I’m calling my new style “California Mountain Modern with Vintage Vibes” Here are some inspiration photos I’ve been collecting.

Our new home will have a more modern and minimalist feel but I still want it to be cozy. I’m imagining white walls, casual furniture with clean lines, and rustic accents. And of course some classic vintage pieces mixed in as well.
I can’t wait to show you pics of the new house and share some more of my home decorating plans. We are on schedule to move in sometime next month so stay tuned and thanks for reading! -Nicole Mendez, Curator
