This online interior design feature is for a guest bedroom artist’s retreat in Pasadena, California. The client is an owner of an artist residency that she runs out of her home. She needed a bright and airy guest bedroom for whoever her artist in residence is at the time. She also wanted to incorporate her own artwork and the work of some of her guests.

We decided to keep the room white (Benjamin Moore: Dune White) which provides a nice backdrop for her artwork. We also left her natural wood base molding and window trim as is. She lives in an early 1900s Craftsman style home, so keeping the original molding and trim was important to her.

In this room placing the bed in front of the window was the best option. We are using the queen size Primus Metal Bed from Pottery Barn. The 3 drawer dressers are from Bed, Bath & Beyond and last time I checked they were on sale for under $200! They also come in black which wasn’t right for this room, but still very cute! I love that their little leather strap handles add just a little bit of style to an otherwise very simple dresser.

This guest bedroom faces the front of the house and our client wanted extra privacy, so we covered the windows with a woven wood shade and layered linen curtains over the top. Pottery Barn has my favorite pre-made curtain panels on the market right now.

For a small sitting area my client is using an antique spindle table that has been passed down in her family. We are pairing it with a modern, fully upholstered barrel-back dining chair from Anthropologie in a fun pop of color.
